Angus & Julia Stone are an Australian brother-sister duo that I first heard when their song "For You" was heavily featured in the pilot episode of Revenge. While I haven't kept up religiously with that show over the past few months, I have continued to listen to the music of the siblings Stone. Considering how distinctive their voices are, I love how they are still able to create variety within their music. I imagine numerous hipsters are driven to Angus & Julia Stone because of their folksy sound and grungy visuals, although don't let that dissuade you from listening to them.
I have attached a few of my favorite songs to this post; "Just A Boy" features Angus on the lead vocals, while "And The Boys" features Julia. Both are wonderful, in my opinion.
Most of the media I absorb is music, which I have yet to post about in my blog. Given that opening, one would be correct to assume this entry will deal with making pottery! Just kidding, it actually deals with music.
Since this is my blog, I would like to voice my opinion on mash-ups, slang for mixing together two different songs. The concept existed before I was born, but seems to have risen in popularity from use on the TV show "Glee." I generally don't like mash-ups, as most "mix-artists" seem to combine the two most random songs they can find. However, I love the clever mixture of beats in "Tender Umbrella Party," a mash-up of Rihanna's "Umbrella" and General Public's "Tenderness." Who would have thought the two songs worked better as one? (Clearly VJ Jaren, but this is beside the point.) I caution those interested in listening, because the song is playing on repeat in my head!
*Note, this song was featured in the trailer for "Just Go With It."
